You felt two pairs of blue eyes stare at you as you sat down in your favorite chair. You waited for them to come closer, but after a moment you sighed. "Boys, I know you're there. Come on over here." Your two sons, Alfred and Matthew, scuffled up to your chair and climbed into your lap. As they snuggled close to you, Alfred tugged on your sleeve. "Mama, we can't sleep." Matthew nodded in agreement, his long blonde locks swaying. "The lightning's too scary, Mama..." You smiled softly and held them close; You remembered when thunderstorms used to frighten you. "How about I sing you a lullaby?" The two boys nodded, holding on to you tightly as you stood and carried them to their room. They snuggled down into their bedsheets, looking at you expectantly, wanting to hear their Mother's beautiful voice. You took a breath and prepared to sing a lullaby you had heard before.
Little child, be not afraid
The rain pounds harsh against the glass
Like an unwanted stranger
There is no danger
I am here tonight
Little child
Be not afraid
Though thunder explodes
And lightning flash
Illuminates your tearstained face
I am here tonight
And someday you'll know
That nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
And forests and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see
In the morning
Little child
Be not afraid
The storm clouds mask your beloved moon
And its candlelight beams
Still keep pleasant dreams
I am here tonight
Little child
Be not afraid
The wind makes creatures of our trees
And the branches to hands
They're not real, understand
And I am here tonight
And someday you'll know
That nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
And forest and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see
In the morning
For you know, once even I
Was a little child
And I was afraid
But a gentle someone always came
To dry all my tears
Trade sweet sleep the fears
And to give a kiss goodnight
Well, now I am grown
And these years have shown
Rain's a part of how life goes
But it's dark and it's late
So I'll hold you and wait
'til your frightened eyes do close
And I hope that you'll know
That nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
And forests and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see
In the morning
Everything's fine in the morning
The rain will be gone in the morning
But I'll still be here in the morning
You smiled softly as you realized that the little boys had fallen asleep. Feeling a certain presence at the doorway, you turned your head you have your (e/c) eyes lock with green ones. "Are they asleep, love?" "Yeah, Arthur. Out like a light." You chuckled as your husband joined you, sitting next to your children's bed. He brushed their hair out of their faces as you gave them each a peck on the forehead. Arthur pouted at you teasingly. "What about me?" You smirked and pulled him in for a passionate kiss. "That better?" "Much better, love." The two of you walked back to your own room, but not before you shot one last glance at your little babies. You hoped that they wouldn't grow up too soon.
Still, I don't how it feels to be scared of thunders. I personally love them when they're mixed in the sounds of raindrops. It's almost like music to my ears, and I hope that doesn't have anything to do with the fact that I'm nearly tone deaf
